Wall panels for meeting rooms

A meeting room has to do two opposite things: sound clear inside for a call, and sound contained so the corridor cannot hear it.

Meeting room with PET acoustic wall panels

What this room demands

Speech clarity is an absorption problem. Echo inside the room makes a conference call unintelligible, and no amount of microphone quality fixes a reverberant room.

Privacy is a different problem: it needs mass, sealing and decoupling at the walls, ceiling and door. Panels alone will not stop sound leaving the room.

Screens, cameras and speakers must be fixed to the wall. Planning those positions into the panel layout avoids drilling into cladding with no fixing behind it.

Specification checklist

  • State the required NRC with its mounting condition, not as a bare number
  • Specify mass and sealing separately for acoustic privacy
  • Plan the screen, camera and speaker positions before setting out panels
  • Check the ceiling treatment, which usually absorbs more than the walls in a small room
  • Confirm the door seal and the duct transfer paths — the usual privacy leaks
  • Verify fire classification for a commercial interior

Installation sequence

  1. Measure the reverberation first. Identify the hard parallel surfaces that create the echo.
  2. Set the screen and camera positions, then set out panels symmetrically about them.
  3. Mount absorbing panels on battens with the air gap that the quoted NRC assumes.
  4. Treat the ceiling and add a door seal — for privacy, these two do more than additional wall panels.
  5. Test with speech before handover and add coverage on the rear wall if it still rings.
Watch out: Wall absorption alone is often quoted as a solution to privacy and then fails. If the requirement is that the corridor cannot hear the meeting, that is a mass and sealing problem and must be specified as one.

Meeting Room — buyer questions

How much acoustic panel does a meeting room need?

Roughly 25–40% coverage on two adjacent walls and the ceiling for a typical meeting room, depending on the floor finish. Below 20% the improvement is usually too small to notice.

Do acoustic panels make a room quieter from outside?

No. Absorption reduces echo inside the room; it does not stop sound leaving. To prevent the corridor hearing the meeting you need mass in the wall, sealing at the perimeter and door, and control of duct transfer paths.

Where should the panels go?

On the walls adjacent to the speaking positions and on the ceiling above them. Panels behind a screen wall do relatively little; panels on the parallel walls that cause the flutter echo do the work.

Fitting out meeting room?

Send the plan or the wall measurements. We will return a panel take-off, a fixing list and a container loading plan.
