3D Wall Panels — Textured PVC and PU Relief Panels

Depth is the product. These panels are specified where a flat wall finish would be invisible — behind a reception desk, at a bar front, or on a corridor wall lit by grazing light.

3D Wall Panels overview

A 3D wall panel works by casting shadow. The pattern relief is 8–25 mm depending on the mould, and the panel only reads properly when light crosses it at a shallow angle. That is why the specification conversation is as much about the lighting design as about the panel.

PU panels are the premium option: light, dimensionally stable, and able to carry fine detail in a mould. PVC 3D panels are thinner and cheaper, and are the right choice for large wall areas where the pattern repeat needs to be economical.

Panels can be supplied primed for site painting, or factory finished in wood grain, stone or metallic effects. Factory finishing gives a consistent colour across the wall; site painting gives the designer freedom to match a specific paint specification. Tell us which you want before production.

Please note: Pattern continuation across panels is the most common complaint. Ask for a two-panel trial lay before the wall is set out.

Where it is used

  • Reception desks, bar fronts and headboards
  • Corridor and lobby feature walls lit by grazing light
  • Retail and exhibition stands
  • Restaurant and nightlife interiors

How it is installed

  1. Mark the pattern repeat across the wall before fixing so panel joints fall on the pattern, not across it.
  2. Bond with a full-bed PU or MS polymer adhesive; relief panels need support across the whole face.
  3. Press panels into place with a roller over the flat areas, working from the centre outwards.
  4. If painting, use a roller followed by a brush in the recesses; spraying gives the most even result on deep relief.

3D Wall Panels — buyer questions

Will a 3D panel look right without special lighting?

It will look flat in diffuse overhead light. Depth only reads when light crosses the surface at a shallow angle — a wall washer, a linear cove or daylight from the side. If the lighting design is fixed and diffuse, choose a flat panel with stronger pattern instead.

PU or PVC for a large wall?

PVC for area, PU for detail. PVC panels are far cheaper per square metre but the relief is shallow. Use PU where the wall is the focal point and the area is modest, and PVC where a large repeated surface has to stay on budget.

Can 3D panels be used on a ceiling?

Yes for PU, which is light and can be bonded with an adhesive rated for overhead use. PVC 3D panels are too thin to stay flat on a ceiling unless they are fully bonded to a solid substrate.
