PU Stone Wall Panels overview
PU stone panels are cast from a mould taken from real stone, in polyurethane resin with a mineral filler. Because the mould comes from an actual face, the texture carries the irregularity of natural stone rather than the repeating look of a printed film.
The commercial case is weight and labour. A natural stone veneer weighs 40–60 kg per square metre and needs a reinforced substrate, a mason and a lot of time. A PU stone panel weighs about 4 kg per square metre and is bonded with adhesive by a general installer. On refurbishment projects, where the substrate cannot take extra load, PU stone is often the only feasible option.
Panels are colour-fast and can be specified pre-finished or supplied for site staining, where an installer washes tone across several panels to break up the repeat. On large elevations we recommend the on-site staining option — a single factory colour across 200 m² of moulded texture reads as artificial.

Where it is used
- Exterior facades, entrance surrounds and column cladding
- Interior feature walls, fireplaces and bar fronts
- Refurbishment projects where the substrate cannot take stone load
- Restaurant, hotel and retail interiors
How it is installed
- Fix a flat, stable substrate — cement board or plywood. PU stone will not bridge a bowed wall.
- Dry-lay three or four panels first to set the coursing and confirm the texture direction.
- Bond with PU adhesive in a full bed, pressing firmly across the whole panel; add mechanical fixings at the top of exterior elevations.
- Seal joints with a colour-matched mastic, and stain across panel joints on site to break the repeat.
PU Stone Wall Panels — buyer questions
Does PU stone look convincing next to real stone?
At one metre, yes — the mould is taken from real stone and the texture carries genuine irregularity. The difference shows in the mass, the sound when tapped, and the repetition across a large elevation. On-site staining and mixed panel sizes reduce the repetition.
Can PU stone be used outdoors?
Yes, with a UV-stable top coat and sealed joints. It is frost resistant and does not absorb water. Mechanical fixings in addition to adhesive are essential on any elevation above about 3 metres.
What is the weight saving against natural stone?
Roughly ten to fifteen times lighter. A natural stone veneer is 40–60 kg/m²; a PU panel is about 4 kg/m². That is the difference between reinforcing a wall and simply bonding to it.
